Vision and Mission

APS believes in the capacity of people to solve their own problems. It is our objective to collaborate with communities, sharing knowledge and resources, that are necessary to make that happen.

Our vision is to help build an alternative health care system in Nicaragua, grounded in community-based preventive and curative primary health care services. Health promoters serve as the human foundation of this system, and it is they themselves who work to strengthen their own communities.

The health promoter becomes the epicenter of organization around the theme of health, and often go on to lead public health / mini-economic projects in their respective communities - it is these efforts that strike at the social roots of disease. We believe that the APS process allows communities to visualize ways to provide for their own needs, in their own way.
